Vitamina C

pimpelmees_258Vitamin C is a very important part of the diet, but unfortunately, it is not very shelf stable and usually breaks down before being consumed.
Along with Avian researchers, we have helped develop a stable form of Vitamin C, called Stay-C, that is formulated into our bird supplements or diets. Vitamin C in sufficient amounts is necessary for strong cell walls and blood vessels. It helps a bird's body utilize iron, folic acid, and Vitamin A.

The need for Vitamin C is further increased by stress or disease, so be sure to provide vitamin C when your birds are molting, breeding, or ill.
Because their bodies don't store Vitamin C, it is important that you give them Vitamin C regular.

Most birds are capable to synthesize their own ascorbate (vitamin C).
Amphibians and reptiles synthesize the ascorbate in the kidneys.
Some birds make it in both liver and kidneys, and other birds make it only in the liver.

Recommendation is based on two facts, the rate of vitamin C transport through the intestinal wall is limited.
Another, equally important fact is that vitamin C gets utilized very quickly, especially under stress.
