Bumblefoot remains one of the commonest and most serious diseases of captive birds of prey.
Bumblefoot is an infected lesion affecting the ball of the foot, or one or more of the toes. Bumblefoot is a common disease of large species of raptors (especially longwings) maintained in captivity and tends to become chronic, progressive, invasive and eventually disabling.
Bumblefoot cream - for treatment of bumblefoot.
This disease can be divided into 3 broad types.
Type 1:
a small reddened area or even just a smooth shiny area, evident on the foot caused by inappropriate perching or badly fitted furniture.
Treatment: apply Bumblefoot cream to the feet twice daily.
Type 2:
some penetration of the skin has occurred or severe and often repeated trauma has occurred to the foot ankles.Treatment: apply Bumblefoot cream to the feet twice daily.
Start treatment with Orni/Myco tabs as well.
Type 3:
Severe distortion of the contours of the foot and/or toes, resulting from infection causing considerable damage in the foot.
Treatment: veterinary assistance is required when dealing with type 3 bumblefoot. No one antibiotic controls all infections.
