Avi~Stress mix

purpertangara_258Avi~Stress mix is to be used by caging, transport, exhibition, medical treatment (vaccination, worming, antibiotic treatment) and bullying. Avi~Stress mix is also to be used by 'heat stress' in hot summerperiods.

Fear is a protective mechanism that causes the animal to respond to potentially harmful stimuli through escape or defensive behaviour. The immediate physiological response to a fear stimulus is the release of adrenalin into the bloodstream to increase heart rate and mobilize energy that may be needed during the initial response. If this initial fight or flight response is ineffective, a stress hormone called corticosterone is also released into the bloodstream as the bird attempts to cope with the fear stimulus. A prolonged elevation of corticosterone can decrease the health, productivity and immunity of the bird as the physiological cost of maintaining a constant stress state takes its toll on the body. This chronic stress response has been assumed to be responsible for the lower productivity seen in fearful birds, as the corticosterone produced influences the birds' nitrogen balance, including increased protein breakdown and energy expenditure which in turn affects reproductive output.

Negative handling, which can induce a chronic stress response, has been found to increase fear and egg shell deformities and decrease feed efficiency, resistance to infection, ease of handling and growth rates.

It is already known that most nutrients are involved in the development of the immune system and its responses. The effectiveness by stress is largely dependent on dietary conditions and it can be adversely affected by an inadequate supply of nutrients.
Under circumstances of stress, additional supplementation of vitamins and trace-elements is essential.

Avi~Stress mix is a complete water soluble vitamin product for birds under stress. The B-complex vitamins are involved with many metabolic functions including energy metabolism. Birds can synthesize vitamin C, but is beneficial by birds subjected to stress. Nutritionists usually add a vitamin premix to the diet to compensate for fluctuating levels arising out of stress. This ensures the bird has the required amounts necessary for normal efficiency.
Avi~Stress mix is also very helpful by heat stress. Birds react to heat stress by panting. Panting dissipates heat by evaporative cooling. Panting however also leads to blood alkalosis (= higher plasma pH). Alkalosis results in reduced feed consumption and lower growth rates.
Avi~stress mix, through a combination of electrolytes, salts and vitamin C, is the nutrient solution to help birds cope with periods of heat stress. Avi~Stress mix helps to maintain an optimal blood pH level in the stressed bird (prevention of blood alkalosis), increases heat resistance and limits the rise in body temperatures during heat stress, during heat stress results in improved feed intake and better technical performance of the bird.

The economic benefit of supplementation of Avi~Stress mix exceeds by far the cost of replacing your birds. Try to supply Avi~Stress mix already prior to a period of extreme heat.
